[Part 1]
The earth is warming up! And we are the only ones who can save it. High usage of electricity requires more coal to be generated, leading to more climate-warming carbon dioxide (CO
2), and many other harmful gases being released into the atmosphere.
Sulphur dioxide, a gas released into the atmosphere when coal is burned, results in acid rain when it reacts with water in the clouds. Nitrogen oxides can also contribute to acid rain. Carbon dioxide traps heat that would escape into space, thus affecting the climate. Lastly, when mercury falls with rain and snow, fishes in the sea are also affected.
Global warming leads to the melting of ice glaciers, which causes the sea level to rise. It's a threat to animals living in the North and South Poles too, because the temperature is rising and these animals aren't accustomed to rising temperatures.
By stopping all this, we need to start saving energy. However, it's not that easy. Electricity is a daily necessity. We use electricity to heat up our water when we bathe, to provide us with light, air-conditioning and many more. If we make an effort to turn off these electrical appliances when they are not in use, perhaps we CAN save the earth.
So what are you waiting for? Save energy now! :D Don't let the penguins die! (And other animals like the polar bears too.)
It all starts with...
YOU!
Yes, I typed that out all by myself, after reading March 06 issue of National Geographic.
Yes, I also know that I am using up electricity by simply using the computer.[Part 2]
There are three main types of fossil fuels -- coal, oil and natural gas. Fossil fuels are being used up rapidly over the years and this is a cause for concern. The word fossil explains that these fuels take many years to build up. If they were to be depleted in the years to come, it would take many years for more fossil fuel to be built up.
That's why we have to save fossil fuels. You can start by saving electricity. :D
Yes, I'm crazy. Thank you, but you don't need to remind me. (:
It's what boredom does to you, you see.
